Produced from 1848 to 1860, the Colt Model 1848 Percussion Army Revolver, Designed by Samuel Colt, is a .44 Caliber, cap & ball revolver, designed for the US Army’s Regiment of Mounted Rifles. The nickname “Dragoon” came about when the revolver was issued to the Army’s “Dragoon” Regiments. Being an upgrade from the Colt Walker, the Dragoon became popular among civilians as well, from the 1850’s, 1860’s and also during the American Civil War. Many variations were made between 1847 and 1860, including the “Baby Dragoon” which was a significantly smaller (pocket sized) version of the full sized revolver.
